We asked these our professionals to give us the full run down on Micro blading and here is what they had to say:
What the f*** is Micro blading exactly?
Jessica Wilson (also known as Jluxe Brows) from Wollongong NSW explains that Micro-blading is a semi permanent procedure which is performed using a manual technique to create the most realistic natural brows. Technique and pattern work is customised to each individual client to mimic hair strokes to grate the most luxurious feathery realistic brow. Pigment is implanted under the skin using a handheld tool.
Aman Kalsi (also known as Skin Artistry by Aman) from Drummoyne NSW describes Micro-blading in comparison to other methods of cosmetic tattooing for the eyebrows. The procedure itself is referred to as cosmetic tattooing by which a semipermanent alteration is made to the eyebrows HOWEVER the tool itself used is referred to as a semi-fine pen with needles. Aman herself uses a cosmetic tattoo machine to achieve similar results. “Clients can get confused and do not usually know the difference” she says.
Micro-blading is changing people’s lives! Why?
Eyebrows are the most important facial feature and the perfect solution to “I woke up like this”. Who doesn’t want to wake up every morning with flawless and full brows?
This treatment is PERFECT for:
Busy mums who want to save time due to a busy schedule
Clients with over- plucked eyebrows
Clients wanting to enhance their shape.
Clients wanting to feel better and look younger
Clients who struggle to or are over filling their brows
Is Micro-blading painful?
Feathering is a specific type of technique used when Micro-blading. Due to its superficiality, feathering is relatively less painful compared to regular tattoos. Each Individual client has a different pain tolerance and sensitivity so the level of discomfort does vary from each individual person. If you are concerned about the pain, Jessica recommends a numbing agent being applied.
Micro-blading is painful compared to the cosmetic tattooing machine methods, Aman says. I do find doing the little lines easier but other people that do it prefer the opposite. I think it all comes down to the person really!
Lets just say, GIRL this is NOT for the faint hearted!
How long does the Micro-blading process take?
Micro-blading usually takes between 1.5hours - 2 hours HOWEVER the overall process can be long as it includes consultations, photos, the actual tattooing, LED after the tattooing and running through home care! DAMN GIRL!
How much does Micro-blading cost? Is it going to break the bank?
Micro-blading is an investment! Your initial procedure cost can range from $450 to $700 which includes a complementary touch up and aftercare ointment however future additional touch ups are cheaper. The touch ups would be roughly $250.
How long does Micro-blading last for?
Micro-blading lasts for a period of up to 2-3 years, however this may vary depending on the clients skin type, skin care and sun exposure Jessica says.
As micro-blading depends on pigment it may not last as long. Aman asks her clients to come back for a 12- month touch ups. She describes that longevity depends on the iron oxide levels in the pigment.
Are there any side effects of Micro-blading we should know about?
Side effects of Micro-blading are very rare however the client may experience minimal to no redness and/or swelling. This swelling can be present for a period of 24-hours or in rare cases up to 3 days.
Aman says that when it comes to micro-blading, it depends who is doing the procedure. The process can cause scaring if the technician presses to hard on the skin. It is really important that people do their research as every client is different. Some can have allergic reactions to titanium or latex used.
What is the recommended aftercare for Micro-blading?
To have your brows looking on fleek, aftercare is super important! Jess says she provides a universal ointment on the day of the procedure that aids the skins healing and help to hydrate the feathered area. This ointment should be applied after every wash. Clients are also advised not to wear makeup directly on the feathered area for a period of 7-14 days, sweat excessively for a period of 7 days and no sun-baking, swimming or saunas for a period of 7 days.
Aman too gives her clients home care products such as tattoo cream that they apply this every night for the first week. She agrees that the best way to look after you fresh new brows is to not get them wet and just treat them like a normal tattoo!
Thank you so much to Jessica Wilson and Aman Kalsi for taking the time out for an interview!
